What is Hypnosis and N.L.P.?
Hypnosis is a deeply relaxed state of mind in which your attention and receptiveness to suggestions or ideas, is heightened, allowing therapy to occur. It has been approved for use by the British Medical Association for over 50 years.
Many people have preconceived notions about Hypnotherapy, mostly as the result of recent trends in watching stage hypnotists using their skills for entertainment value. Thankfully, this is not the case at all. In reality, the stage hypnotist will usually select compliant, extrovert types who are willing to do silly things suggested to them anyway! Whoever you are, when you are in hypnosis you will never do or say anything you do not want to. The therapist has no control over the client, they simply facilitate requirements for change to help achieve success.
This works by using an induction process which is simply the therapist talking to the client, maybe about a relaxing scene, allowing the conscious mind to relax and switch off. This then gives the therapist access to the subconscious mind when suggestions for change to a certain behaviour, stress, addiction and so on can be made. During this process the client will sit comfortably in a reclining chair with closed eyes. The client will be aware of everything that is happening and hear everything being said. It is a perfectly natural state of deep relaxation.
NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming, is a conscious approach to personal development and communication. NLP is a kind of ‘owners manual’ on how to use your brain! With traditional teaching methods we learn wonderful things like history and geography, mathematics and English literature, but we did not learn much about how to feel good or to have great relationships, how to push ourselves to do the things we want to do. How to use our brain to the best of its ability!
This is where Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) comes in. You can learn NLP techniques and methods that allow you to feel more in charge of your thoughts and emotions. You can learn to take charge of behaviours you would like to change. Essentially, you can run your life in a much more successful and effective way.
Just because you have done something the same way for a long time doesn’t mean you can change. Why not learn to do something differently! Maybe you’ve never been able to try a certain type of food, or do you want to push yourself to join new club or gym, do you want to be able to speak out and feel comfortable, do you want to start saying ‘No’ sometimes.
